Pharmaceutical Technology:

Pharmaceutical technology refers to the application of scientific knowledge, engineering principles, and technological advancements in the development, manufacturing, and delivery of pharmaceutical products. It encompasses a wide range of processes, techniques, and tools used in the pharmaceutical industry to ensure the quality, safety, and effectiveness of medications.

Pharmaceutical technology is essential to the development, manufacture and delivery of safe and effective medicines. Here are some of the key reasons why pharmaceutical technology is so important:

Drug Discovery and Development: Pharmaceutical technology plays a vital role in the discovery and development of new drugs. It involves identifying potential drug targets, conducting research on active compounds, and optimizing their pharmaceutical properties through formulation and delivery systems.

Formulation Development: Formulation scientists utilize pharmaceutical technology to develop optimal drug formulations. They select suitable excipients, establish drug delivery systems, and design dosage forms such as tablets, capsules, liquids, patches, and inhalers.

Drug Delivery Systems: Pharmaceutical technology is instrumental in designing drug delivery systems that control the release of drugs and enhance their therapeutic efficacy.

Manufacturing and Quality Control: Pharmaceutical technology encompasses manufacturing processes and quality control methods to ensure the consistency, purity, and safety of pharmaceutical products. It involves techniques such as pharmaceutical compounding, granulation, tablet compression, encapsulation, sterile processing, and packaging.

Analytical Techniques: Various analytical techniques and instruments are employed in pharmaceutical technology to assess the quality, purity, and potency of pharmaceutical products.

Regulatory Compliance: Pharmaceutical technology also incorporates adherence to regulatory guidelines and standards to ensure the safety, efficacy, and quality of pharmaceutical products

Drug Safety and Pharmacovigilance: Pharmaceutical technology contributes to the monitoring, assessment, and management of drug safety through pharmacovigilance programs. It involves collecting and analyzing data on adverse drug reactions, conducting post-marketing surveillance, and ensuring patient safety.

Pharmaceutical Packaging: Packaging technology plays a crucial role in pharmaceuticals to ensure product integrity, stability, and tamper resistance. It involves selecting appropriate packaging materials, designing child-resistant packaging, and incorporating labeling and patient information.

Speaker Guidelines

Organize Your Research

  1. State the hypothesis and purpose of your research.
  2. Describe your methods of investigation.
  3. Include data collected and what was learned.
  4. Give conclusions based on the collected data.
  5. Emphasize the significance and highlights of the research.

Shape Your Presentation

  1. Prepare notes that highlight the salient points of your talk.
  2. Practice the delivery of your talk, along with your slide sequence. Be sure your talk fits the time allotted.
  3. Use simple sentences. Avoid jargon, highly specialized vocabulary, and unfamiliar abbreviations.
  4. Think about questions you might be asked, and prepare your answers.
  5. Audio-visuals should amplify your talk, not duplicate it.
  6. Do not include music or film clips or other copyrighted content with your presentation unless it is directly relevant to your research. If you must include music, film clips, or similar content, please ensure that it is either open source or content for which you have copyright permissions to use. Optimally display your work—don't use words if a picture conveys it more clearly (graphs, tables, charts, etc.).
  7. Use line graphs to show trends; bar graphs to compare magnitudes; pie graphs to demonstrate relative portions of a whole.
  8. Make sure your supporting audio-visuals are concise, uncluttered, and easily read from a distance. We recommend that you use a font of at least eighteen points or larger. This is especially important in presentations to a virtual audience because screen sizes vary by user.
  9. Request special AV equipment early or it may not be available.
