Gareth Weir became Deputy Ambassador at the British Embassy in Seoul in July 2022. Gareth joined the (formerly) Department for International Development in 2011 after working extensively across the USA, portions of Africa, and Asia for a large management consulting firm. His prior positions include those of Economic Team Lead in Mozambique and Deputy Head helping the post-earthquake response in Nepal. His duties have covered a variety of policy and programmatic work in the areas of global trade, investment, and climate change.
Before taking up this position, Gareth worked in the UK in a variety of business and policy positions, including leading the Department for International Development and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's merger to become the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO). He graduated from Cambridge and Durham Universities. He likes team sports (particularly hockey and cricket), running, traveling, and serving on the board of an NGO for international education in the UK in his free time.
